Reviving Handmade Stitches in Fashion Design by Using Automated Embroidery Techniques According To the Different Body Styles

Abstract

Traditions reflects the culture of society, which includes customs, knowledge and skills, and among these skills is the art of hand embroidery that was used to decorate and treat clothing items, and one of the hand embroidery stitches that were popular in the western region is the linking stitches used to connect two pieces of fabric. The research focuses on the disappearance of linking stitches as a result of recent developments in the field of technology, so the two researchers aims to revive the linking stitches in a manner appropriate to the modern era, using automated embroidery stitches that simulate manual linking stitches in making designs that are appropriate to the body’s different shapes, This research used the historical curriculum and the procedural curriculum. The research aims to replace hand embroidery stitches of linking stitches with machine embroidery, and to employ them in designs suitable for different bodies. A questionnaire was designed to explore the assessments to highlight the topic and elements of the research and verify its goals, where one of the most prominent findings of the research, the success of automated embroidery techniques in inspiring and reviving the tradition of manual linking stitches in fashion design, and automated embroidery techniques contributed to creating new designs consistent with  different body shapes. In conclusion, the study provides more room for creativity and innovation in the field of fashion designs based on tradition-inspired embroidery stitches. The researchers recommend intensifying historical studies in traditional hand stitches in the regions of the Kingdom and record them and working on developing modern methods in reviving traditional hand stitches in line with the era of speed and modern developments in fashion design.
