Feelings of Social Rejection and Their Relationship to Mental Health Among University Students

The current research aims to study the feeling of social rejection and its relationship to mental health among university students, according to two variables: gender (male-female) and specialization (scientific-humanities). The Social Rejection Scale and the Mental Health Scale were administered to a sample of students from the University of Baghdad. The current study employed a descriptive correlational approach to identify the correlation between the feeling of social rejection and mental health.
the researcher employed the following approach:The researcher prepared a scale for the feeling of social rejection based on several previous scales and studies. The scale consisted of (18) items. Also, a scale for mental health was built based on the definition and theory
adopted in the current research by the researcher, which consisted of (20). The researicher applied the sicales to a samiple of (400) univeirsity students for the academic year 2024-2025, and the results were as follows:
1-The feeling of social rejection among university students was at a weak degree.
2-The results indicate that university students enjoy mental health
3-The feeling of social rejection is weakly related to mental health for males, while for females, there is a strong relationship between the two variables.
4-The feeling of social rejection is highly related to mental health.
The research concluded by discussing the results and presenting some recommendations and suggestions.
