The present study aimed to identify the levels of perceived counseling self-efficacy and interpersonal emotion regulation among female students in the Department of Psychology, examine the nature of the relationship between the two variables, and investigate whether interpersonal emotion regulation could be predicted by perceived counseling self-efficacy. The study employed descriptive correlational design. The Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (IERQ) and the Perceived Counseling Self-Efficacy Scale were administered to a convenience sample of 118 female students from the Department of Psychology at the University of Jeddah during the 2026 academic year. The results indicated a high level of perceived counseling self-efficacy (M = 3.94; relative weight = 78.9%), whereas the level of interpersonal emotion regulation was moderate (M = 3.50; relative weight = 69.9%). The findings also revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between perceived counseling self-efficacy and interpersonal emotion regulation at the 0.01 level (r = 0.497). Significant correlations were found between the dimensions of the two variables, except for the Soothing dimension, which was not significantly associated with perceived counseling self-efficacy. Simple linear regression analysis showed that perceived counseling self-efficacy explained 24.7% of the variance in interpersonal emotion regulation (R² = 0.247, F = 38.05, p < 0.01). The findings were discussed in light of theoretical literature and previous studies, and the study concluded with a set of practical recommendations and suggestions for future research.
